Few years ago I ranted about Eclipse and how wonderful technology it is. However, Eclipse tool support doesn’t come as quickly as that for Emacs (or vi, for that matter) when it comes to not-so-enterprisey technologies. I was astounded by Dmitry Galinsky’s rails emacs mode and the amount of support it offers for templates, navigation, script generation, rails tasks etc - obviously exceeding support offered by RadRails IMO (which is rather nice tool too).

Also, because I already have used Emacs for over 10 years and can at least read if not write my own e-lisp, my favorite Ruby/Rails editor is now Emacs (again).

I would really like to try TextMate for all the good stuff I’ve heard about it, but I should afford a Mac first.
